Your July Summer Skin Survival Guide
Summer is one of my favorite seasons. It’s filled with family vacations, swimming, BBQs, sunshine, sports, camps, and making memories with the people we love.
But it’s also the season when many people begin reaching for every cream in their medicine cabinet because they assume they’re having an eczema flare-up.
Here’s something many people don’t realize.…
Not every itch is eczema.
Sometimes your skin is simply reacting to your environment.
Let’s talk about it.
Sweat Isn’t Always Your Friend
During the summer, our bodies naturally sweat more to help regulate our temperature. While sweating is completely normal, allowing sweat to remain on the skin for long periods: especially under tight clothing or in skin folds, can cause irritation.
Many people mistake this irritation for eczema when, in reality, it may simply be heat rash or skin irritation caused by sweat.
If you’ve ever noticed tiny red bumps after spending the day outside, exercising, attending a sporting event, or visiting an amusement park, your skin may simply be asking for a little extra care—not stronger products.
That “Eczema Flare-Up” Could Actually Be an Insect Bite
Mosquitoes, ants, fleas, and other insects are everywhere during the summer.
Their bites can become itchy, swollen, inflamed, and irritated: often looking very similar to eczema.
Before assuming your skin is flaring, ask yourself:
• Have I been outdoors recently?
• Did I notice a bite?
• Is the irritation only in one or two spots?
Sometimes the answer isn’t eczema at all.
Your Jewelry Could Be Irritating Your Skin
This one surprises a lot of people.
Think about everything your jewelry touches throughout the day:
• Sweat
• Dirt
• Dust
• Body oils
• Lotions
• Sunscreen
• Perfume
• Bacteria from your hands
Now imagine wearing those same earrings, necklaces, bracelets, rings, watches, fitness trackers, or work lanyards every day without cleaning them.
That buildup can contribute to skin irritation, especially for individuals with sensitive skin.
Taking just a few minutes each week to clean the items that stay against your skin can make a noticeable difference.
Clothing Matters More Than You Think
Have you ever put on a shirt and instantly started itching?
Sometimes it isn’t your skin….
It’s the fabric.
Certain materials trap heat and sweat while others create friction against sensitive skin. Even leftover laundry detergent or fabric softener residue can irritate already sensitive skin.
Choosing breathable fabrics and washing clothing properly can help reduce unnecessary irritation during the warmer months.
5 Common Things People Mistake for an Eczema Flare-Up
Not every itchy patch of skin is eczema. During the summer months, several common skin concerns can look almost identical.
1. Heat Rash
Tiny red bumps caused by trapped sweat are especially common in babies, toddlers, active children, athletes, and anyone spending long periods outdoors.
2. Insect Bites
Mosquitoes, ants, fleas, spiders, and other insects can leave itchy bumps that closely resemble eczema.
3. Contact Irritation
Jewelry, watches, belt buckles, backpack straps, sports equipment, detergents, fragrances, and certain fabrics can all irritate sensitive skin.
4. Sweat & Oil Buildup
Sweat mixed with dirt, bacteria, and body oils can clog pores and irritate the skin: especially around the neck, underarms, elbows, behind the knees, and beneath jewelry.
5. Dry Skin
Sometimes your skin is simply thirsty.
After swimming, showering, or spending time in the sun, moisture quickly escapes from the skin. Without replacing that moisture, dryness can lead to itching, tightness, and irritation.
A Special Note for Parents of Children & Teens
Summer break means more outdoor play, sports, swimming lessons, camps, sleepovers, and vacations.
It also means more opportunities for sensitive skin to become irritated.
Children and teenagers often don’t recognize the early signs of skin irritation. They’ll continue scratching because “it just itches,” not realizing that scratching can make the irritation worse.
Parents, this is a wonderful opportunity to teach healthy skincare habits that can last a lifetime.
Encourage your children and teens to:
✔ Shower after outdoor activities, sports, or swimming.
✔ Change out of sweaty clothing promptly.
✔ Wear breathable clothing whenever possible.
✔ Keep jewelry, sports equipment, hats, watches, and reusable water bottles clean.
✔ Moisturize immediately after bathing while the skin is still slightly damp.
Healthy routines today can help support healthier-looking skin tomorrow.
Hydration Is More Than Drinking Water
Yes…. drink your water.
But don’t forget your skin needs hydration too.
Your skin naturally loses moisture every day, especially after cleansing, swimming, or spending time outdoors.
Without replacing that moisture, dryness can quickly lead to discomfort and irritation.
That’s why choosing the right moisturizer matters.
Not every lotion is formulated with sensitive skin in mind.
Some products simply sit on the surface of the skin, while others contain ingredients that may be too harsh for delicate or eczema-prone skin.
Why We Created Nature’s Bye Bye Itch™
At ME Skincare, our journey began with one little girl.
After watching my daughter struggle with severe eczema, scratching until she bled, and trying countless over-the-counter and prescription products that simply didn’t provide the comfort we hoped for, I knew there had to be another way.
What started as a mother’s determination became a mission to help other families care for dry, itchy, eczema-prone, and sensitive skin through thoughtfully handcrafted skincare.
Our Nature’s Bye Bye Itch™ Hydrating Moisturizing Lotion was created to help comfort and hydrate the skin while supporting a healthy skin barrier.
Our carefully selected botanical ingredients are known for their:
✔ Anti-inflammatory properties
✔ Antioxidant properties
✔ Antifungal properties
✔ Antimicrobial properties
Together, these ingredients help comfort dry, irritated skin while supporting your skin’s natural barrier against everyday environmental stressors, including pollution and free radicals.
Whether you’re caring for eczema-prone skin, seasonal dryness, irritation from sweat, insect bites, friction, or simply sensitive skin, maintaining a healthy skin barrier starts with consistent hydration.
Did You Know?
- Your skin is the largest organ in your body.
- Your skin barrier is your body’s first line of defense against environmental irritants, bacteria, pollutants, and free radicals.
- Consistently moisturizing helps support your skin barrier by reducing moisture loss and helping your skin stay hydrated.
- Babies, children, teens, athletes, and outdoor workers are especially prone to sweat-related skin irritation during the summer months.
- Healthy skin isn’t achieved overnight, it’s built through consistent daily habits.
